TWU Terry Scholar Service Events
Past Service Opportunities
Boo At the U!
Boo at the U is an annual event, held around Halloween, that Texas Woman's University hosts. The different organizations around campus decorate the trunks of their cars and then pass out candy to kids as they walk by. We have had themes such as Disney, Superheros, and Magic!
Stream Clean
The city of Denton hosts a few different service projects throughout the years and the Stream Clean was one of them. The TWU Terry group was assigned to a specific area to clean. We ended with about ten trash bags full of trash and five tires that were lying around.
Galveston Beach Clean UP
Every year, all of the Terry Scholar schools get together for a service event. In 2014, the service event for the scholars was a beach clean up in Galveston. The almost 250 Terry Scholars that attended broke up into thirteen groups and each cleaned a jetty and the shore surrounding it. In just a couple of hours, more than 10 miles of beach had been cleaned. TWU had 13 out of its 17 scholars attend thee event, which was the highest percentage from each school!
United Ways Day of Action
In 2015, we had a group of students attend the Day of Action, where we went to the Salvation Army and cleaned their soup kitchen. In about two hours we had that kitchen ready for health inspections and a giving out food to the homeless in the Denton area!
Make a difference day
In 2014, we had Terry's go along University for about a half a mile and cleaned up all of the trash and debris that people threw out. We found things from Sonic cups to chunks of plastic, and we even found a love letter that had blown out of someone's car. That day was filled with laughter and service for the community.
